Exfoliation tips for skin that really glows
Soft, smooth skin which really glows with vitality is something which will make you instantly look great.
But pollution, exposure to the elements and an unhealthy lifestyle often takes a toll, leaving skin looking grey and tired.
The good news is that it’s simple to refresh and renew your skin by exfoliating; the following top tips will explain how to get the best results.
Don’t go crazy
If you’ve never really exfoliated before, it’s easy to overdo things and scrub away at your skin, hoping to release your youthful inner self.
But exfoliating too aggressively can be just as bad as not exfoliating at all, leaving skin blotchy, red and sore. Not a great look!
Start off gently, and exfoliate just 1-2 times per week and see how your skin reacts. Everyone’s skin is different and it’s important to find the frequency which is right for you.
Night-time or morning?
Exfoliating often seems like the perfect thing to add to a morning regime, waking you up and re-energising you for the day ahead.
However, if you’re planning to go out, you might find that you end up with skin which is sensitive to sunlight and looks red and raw, rather than the radiant glow you’d hoped for.
Night-time is a much better time to exfoliate. Not only will your skin have a few hours to calm down before you need to face the world, it will also allow your moisturizer time to penetrate more deeply and really get to work.
Avoid scratchy scrubs
“No pain, no gain” is definitely not a mantra which applies to exfoliating your skin; it doesn’t have to hurt to get results.
Steer clear of over the counter scrubs which have large abrasive particles. These could end up just scratching your skin rather than exfoliating, leaving you prone to breakouts.
Opting for a professional treatment such as microdermabrasion will get the best results, without damaging your skin in the process.
Don’t forget your lips
Your lips may look different to the rest of the skin on your face, but they need exfoliating too to stay soft, kissable and sexy.
The simplest way is to cover your lips with a thin coating of Vaseline and then using a toothbrush, rub in small circles all over.
If you want to be extra creative you could use a home-made mixture of honey and sugar (in equal parts) rubbed into your lips with your fingers.
Whatever you choose, wash your lips clean using a soft facecloth and finish off with a soothing lip balm for a plump, silky smooth pout.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
However, you choose to exfoliate your skin, moisturising and toning are vital steps that completes the process. Stripping away dead cells from the surface will leave skin feeling sensitive and also lacking in oils. Toning will help to tighten up the pores, stopping dirt or bacteria from invading your pores. Moisturising helps to replenish the lost oils, leaving skin looking plump, radiant and youthful and you feeling your very best!
